FIFOTO Blog » locations

October was supposed to be a relatively quiet month, with event shoots and FIFOTO 101 classes every weekend. I was looking forward to catching up on all my TV series but it has turned out to be shoot frenzy! The team and I have been shooting almost every other day this month and apart from my Nike-inspired jogs in the park, I haven’t had any time to myself and honestly, I’m starting to miss my alone nights with Hank! Having said that, I’m totally happy immersing myself with work coz that means more shopping money for my upcoming Melbourne trip! =)

Last Sunday’s class was on LIGHT. We talked about soft vs hard light and its different characteristics. We talked about the different light sources and how we can manipulate them. We also had a practical session within the studio and everyone got to play with various lights and color gels!

The objective of this assignment was for students to demonstrate their understanding of light, its characteristics and how to use it creatively. If you thought last week’s assignment photos were good, you are going to be blown away by this set! Needless to say, I was blown away by each and every submission I received throughout the week. I am in AWE!!! Amazed by their lighting technique, mesmerized by their creativity! I feel inspired by their photos and now I understand the joy of teaching!!!

Here are the shots! (Pls note: no editing was allowed, these shots are straight out of camera!)

Please vote for your favorite photo, leave a comment and tell us why you like it!!!

Poll closes tomorrow (Sunday Oct 18) at 12pm!

It was Dejavu for me as I flew back from HK to make it back in time for Club 21’s newly refurbished location shoot at KLCC.

After a good early breakfast at San Francisco Coffee, my favorite place for sandwiches and coffee (too bad they don’t have one at the Pavilion so I have to make do with Coffee Bean’s salad or Subway’s sandwiches!), I headed to CK Accessories. It is one third the size of the clothing store and I was done in like 20 minutes! Right next door, is Mulberry and the store is tastefully fitted with a light wood finish and warm lighting. Of course, it was mainly the bags that stood out and I was eyeing a few! Didn’t dare look at the prices after 2 weeks of shopping in the US and returning from HK! Besides, the sales in HK really do make it worth the trip there! My friend had bought a funky Mulberry clutch at 70% off!!!

On this day, two weeks from now, I would have just arrived in San Francisco! I am super excited about my trip to the US! The last time I was there was in 2007 for Tina and Alex’s wedding in Scottsdale, Arizona. After the wedding, Allen, Rita and I had a mini vacation in SF before we headed back. I must say, out of all the cities I’ve been to in the US, SF is still my favorite! I just love the city, the shopping, the people, the hilly streets… Best of all.. the weather!

I had planned to arrive on Tues but I’ve decided to fly in one day early to do some shopping! Steve and I will be doing a pre-wedding shoot on Wed and then all my girlfriends fly into SF on Thurs so it’ll be girly time from then on!

It’ll be part work but mostly play for me! (More work for Steve as he has two weddings to cover! hahahahaha) We’re also doing a special road trip out to LA to meet the famous Orange County photographer, Jasmine Star. Allen and I will be having our portraits done by her! We are really looking forward to meeting her - she does amazing work and writes just as well! And for someone like me who hates to read, it says a LOT that I’m reading her blog!

I’m still trying to decide whether I should bring my laptop or not. This would be my first trip to the US where I will have with me my full set of equipment and I’m not really sure if I’d wanna add another few kilos by bringing my laptop! Besides, I doubt I’d have time to be updating my blog! (Maybe I will just use Steve’s if he’s bringing his!) I’m leaning towards a NO….

Here are two location shoots I did on the first day back to work (two weeks ago! Oh how time flies!)

RT+Q

12.10.2008

RT+Q is an architectural firm based in Singapore. I had the privilege to photograph one of their housing projects in Kuala Lumpur last Thursday. This house took 4 years to build and is modern, and I mean MODERN! Their flair for modern design is unmistakable with the use of lines and shapes to form streamlined constructs.

Every corner of the house is carefully designed and looks like a piece of art at any angle you view it from. My favorite parts of the house are the living room and the pool. The living area is enclosed by two very tall glass sliding doors that are about 20ft high, one on each side of the room. These large glass doors slide open and the living is transformed to an open space! The lap pool is made completely out of Italian Bisazza mosaic, my favorite type of tiles to work with but also very expensive! (I have them in both my bathrooms in my apartment but I could only afford one wall each!)

I am in the midst of editing the photos but here’s a sneak preview! More photos to come soon!
